[Alpha Biz= Reporter Kim Jisun] For the first time in history, shoppers will be able to visit outlet malls nationwide during the Chuseok holiday.

On the 1st, Shinsegae announced that on Chuseok day, September 17th, its premium outlets in Yeoju, Paju, Siheung, Busan, and Jeju will be open from noon until 9 PM.

Lotte also plans to open its six premium outlets in Uiwang, Dongbusan, Giheung, Gimhae, Icheon, and Paju, as well as its outlets in Buyeo and Isiapolis, during the same hours.

This marks the first time that Shinsegae and Lotte outlet stores will be open on Chuseok day since their first stores opened in 2007 and 2008, respectively.

This decision reflects the changing trend of more people choosing to enjoy leisure activities rather than traveling home during the Chuseok holiday. It is also influenced by the fact that outlet sales have been sluggish this summer due to record-breaking heatwaves and extended monsoon rains.

Both companies have stated that they will allow their brand stores to decide independently whether to open on Chuseok day. Currently, the participation rate is estimated to be around 80-90%.

Meanwhile, Hyundai has decided not to open its outlets on Chuseok day.
