[Alpha Biz= Reporter Paul Lee] The special trademark police of the Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO) launched a concentrated crackdown on counterfeit goods of K-pop idols such as BTS and NewJeans, as well as famous characters like Pokémon, in light of the Children's Day holiday.

On April 23rd, the special trademark police conducted a focused crackdown on K-pop and character goods vendors in the Myeongdong tourist district of Seoul, seizing over 9,000 counterfeit items from 2 shops. Four individuals, including Mr. A (47), who were involved in the sale and distribution of counterfeit goods, were investigated without detention on charges of violating the Trademark Act.

The goods seized by the special trademark police did not go through procedures such as KC certification or safety verification. There are concerns about safety, as these products can easily expose young consumers, such as children and students, to harmful substances.
