[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Paul Lee] According to the Credit Finance Association on the 20th, Hyundai Card had 203,000 new members in March, the largest number among eight full-time credit card companies (Lotte, BC, Samsung, Shinhan, Woori, Hana, Hyundai and KB Kookmin Card).
This is twice the number of new members of Hyundai Card (116,000) in the previous month.
Next to Hyundai Card, KB Kookmin Card (149,000), Shinhan Card (136,000), and Samsung Card (127,000) had the largest number of new members.
"The number of new subscribers to Hyundai Card seems to have increased significantly from the previous month due to a growing number of users who want to use Apple Pay first," a credit card industry source said.
Chung Tae-young, vice chairman of Hyundai Card, said on the 11th through his social media (SNS) account that the number of subscription tokens exceeded 2 million for three weeks after Apple Pay's domestic launch.
Apple Pay does not store the card number on an Apple server or personal terminal, but creates a unique device account number and stores it on the terminal's internal security chip through the encryption process.
If a user registers one card information on two devices, including the iPhone and Apple Watch, one Apple Pay token will be issued each.
Apple Pay is known to have about 100,000 franchises.
