[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun] With a labor union under the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions' National Delivery Workers' Union formed at Coupang's logistics delivery subsidiary Coupang Logistics Service (CLS), Coupang has taken a hard-line stance, saying, "Stop the illegal incitement."
On the 24th, the Coupang Delivery Branch under the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions held an inaugural conference in Bundang, Gangnam and Ilsan and stressed, "We will make efforts to protect our rights against Coupang's unfair dismissal and continued deterioration of labor conditions."
Unionized members of the Coupang Delivery Service are not CLS employees. It is a worker of the Quick Flex logistics agency contracted with CLS and consists of a private business.
"It is a violation of the Living Logistics Act so that it can be recovered at will without designating a zone, and forcing classification work is also a violation of social consensus," the delivery union said. "Coupang should comply with the Living Logistics Act and implement social consensus."
CLS refuted the claim by the courier union, saying it was a "false claim."
"The delivery union is making fake news and illegally instigating CLS to expand the union's power," a CLS official said. "CLS will take strong action, including all legal actions, if the delivery union continues to engage in illegal activities with its customers hostage."
