[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun] The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs met with CJ CheilJedang officials in person on the 24th and urged them to refrain from raising sugar prices in Korea.


Kwon Jae-han, head of the Agricultural Innovation Policy Division at the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, visited the first plant in Incheon, CJ CheilJedang's Jeju plant, the country's No. 1 sugar market share.

At the on-site meeting, a CJ CheilJedang official said that the company's cost burden is increasing due to the rise in international raw sugar prices and requested government support, such as maintaining quota tariffs on raw sugar.

In response to this, Kwon Jae-han, Director of the Agricultural Innovation Policy Office of the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, said that he would discuss with the relevant ministries the extension of the raw sugar quota tariff (3% → 0%).
