[Alphabiz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun] It was confirmed on the 16th that three companies, including Samsung C&T, Dongjin Semichem and Japan's Mitsubishi affiliates, have confirmed the supply of sulfuric acid for wafer cleaning to TSMC, the world's No. 1 semiconductor company, from April next year.
An official who is familiar with the internal situation of the sulfuric acid supply joint venture (Joint Venture) such as Samsung and Dongjin said in a telephone interview with Alpha Biz, "All of the TSMC supply sulfuric acid will be produced at the U.S. plant and the official supply date is around April 2024," adding, "If the safety of the sulfuric acid is secured, Samsung Electronics will also receive it through Samsung C&T."
Mitsubishi technology is said to have been largely adopted as a high-purity sulfuric acid manufacturing method for wafer washing to be supplied to TSMC in April next year. In addition, it has been confirmed that the sulfuric acid plant of TSMC supply will be repaired and expanded by acquiring the factory of Mitsubishi affiliates located in Houston.
Other participants, including Samsung and Dongjin and Mitsubishi's Martin Midstream, invest 60%, 30% and 10%, respectively.
Yoon Joo-ho, CEO of Umbrella Research, said, "If Dongjin supplies sulfuric acid to TSMC on the scheduled date without any problems, it is highly likely that the growth potential of the semiconductor materials sector will be further secured in the future," adding, "We should pay close attention from the perspective of investors as it is highly likely that Dongjin will try to maximize shareholder profits in the long run, such as expanding dividends."
