[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Paul Lee] Baemin delivery drivers go on strike on May 5, Children's Day.

The Korean Confederation of Trade Unions' delivery platform labor union (hereinafter referred to as Baemin labor union) said on the 27th that the second adjustment of the National Labor Relations Commission by Woowahan Young People, the operator of the union and the Baemin rider, has been broken.

"The minimum wage and prices are rising, but only basic delivery fees have stopped," a union official said. "The purpose of raising the delivery fee is to improve the working environment by increasing the payment ratio of riders, not by increasing the burden on users."

The main issue of collective bargaining was to raise the basic delivery fee from 3,000 won to 4,000 won.

In addition, it included the suspension of local discrimination on basic delivery fees, the payment of "the same basic delivery fee as before," and the payment of fixed incentives for delivery, but negotiations were not reached in the end.

As the negotiations broke down, the union decided to go on strike after voting for and against it. 80% of the union members participated in the vote for and against the strike, which took place from the 24th to the day, with 88.14% in favor of the strike.

The union is scheduled to stage a May 5 Children's Day strike. As it is a holiday, demand for delivery is expected to be high, which is expected to cause a "delivery crisis."

About 3,000 people take part in the strike. Prior to the strike, 400 Baemin workers will gather in front of the Baemin headquarters on the 1st of next month to hold a protest rally and visit the headquarters.
