[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Paul Lee] The production of steel and products at POSCO's Pohang Steelworks, which were shut down due to the Typhoon Hinnamnor flood in the early morning of September 6 last year, is showing rapid recovery.
According to POSCO Pohang Steelworks on the 1st, Pohang Steelworks, which has been producing more than 10 million tons of crude steel and products on average per month, was hit hard by about 520,000 tons of crude steel production and about 260,000 tons of product production that month when the plant was shut down due to flood damage in September last year.
However, the production of Pohang Steelworks has been on a steep rise since October as the Seongang area has been normalized due to rapid recovery and representative factories for each product have begun to restart one after another.
In October, the crude steel production was 930,000 tons and the product production was 520,000 tons, up more than 180% from September. In particular, crude steel production recovered 70% of the production in August (1.36 million tons) before the typhoon within a month of flooding, laying the foundation for the establishment of a stable product supply system.
Since November, production has been on a steady rise as the speed of restarting the product plant has gained momentum. In particular, as the entire process normal operation system was established on January 19, 2023, both crude steel and product production increased rapidly.
In January this year, crude steel production was about 1.19 million tons, recovering about 87% of the crude steel production (1.36 million tons) in August before the typhoon. Product production recovery is also progressing rapidly.
