[Alpha Biz= Reporter Kim Minyoung] Doosan Bobcat expands its Chennai plant in India to produce mini excavators. This strategic move aims to dominate the Indian construction machinery market by adding mini excavators to its existing construction equipment line.

On April 4th, Doosan Bobcat held a ceremony to mark the completion of its new mini excavator plant in Chennai, India. After approximately 9 months of construction, the company completed a production facility spanning 11,300 square meters (about 3,400 pyeong) on the existing Chennai plant site.

Doosan Bobcat plans to complete the installation and stabilization of the production line within this year. Mass production of mini excavators is scheduled to commence from next year.

The Indian subsidiary of Doosan Bobcat has been producing versatile equipment such as Backhoe Loaders and Skid-Steer Loaders at the Chennai plant. With the addition of the new mini excavators and Portable Power products manufactured at its Bengaluru plant, the company will operate a total of four production lines in India.

Over the past five years, the Indian subsidiary of Doosan Bobcat has achieved an average annual growth rate of 22% in revenue. The company aims to maintain this growth momentum through the introduction of new products. While North America currently accounts for 70% of its total sales, the company aims to increase the proportion of sales from markets like India to diversify its portfolio.

Doosan Bobcat aims to sell a total of 8,900 units of equipment annually in the Indian market by 2028.
