[Alpha Biz= Paul Lee] Two mid-level employees (Grade 3) from the Financial Supervisory Service (FSS) have rejoined the domestic cryptocurrency exchange Bithumb as executives, it was revealed on Thursday.
According to sources in the financial sector, Team Leader A from the FSS’s Banking Inspection Division and Team Leader B from the Insurance Inspection Division were approved for reemployment at Bithumb following the public official retirement employment review by the Ministry of Personnel Innovation last month. Both will hold the position of executive director, with Team Leader A taking on the role of Compliance Officer and Team Leader B assuming the position of Head of the Audit Department.
Bithumb’s hiring of former FSS officials is seen as a move to prepare for potential regulatory scrutiny. The FSS conducted an on-site inspection of Bithumb in September last year. Additionally, Bithumb also recruited two former FSS employees in 2023. A Grade 3 official from the FSS was appointed as a director, while a Grade 4 official was made a team leader at Bithumb.
