[Alpha Biz= Reporter Kim Sangjin] On August 27, Alteogen surpassed EcoPro BM to become the leading company by market capitalization on the KOSDAQ market.
According to the Korea Exchange, Alteogen's stock closed at 315,000 won, up 0.80% from the previous trading day. As of market close, Alteogen's market capitalization reached 16.742 trillion won, surpassing EcoPro BM’s 16.636 trillion won.
EcoPro BM, which claimed the top KOSDAQ spot on September 4, 2022, displacing its group affiliate EcoPro, has now been overtaken. This marks the first time in over two years that a non-EcoPro stock has held the top position on KOSDAQ.
EcoPro BM previously ceded the top spot to HLB on July 14, 2022, but reclaimed it the following day and maintained the lead until August 21, 2023. It briefly lost the top position to EcoPro between August 22-24 and August 29 - September 1, 2023, but then returned to the top.
Alteogen has seen a surge in buying interest due to increased demand for US biosimilar drugs and expectations of interest rate cuts. The company's stock price has skyrocketed, rising 244% since the beginning of the year and tripling from its end-of-year price of 98,500 won. During the same period, its market capitalization has surged by over 11 trillion won, from 5.14 trillion won to 16.742 trillion won.
