[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Paul Lee] HD Korea Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co. said on the 2nd that it has won 12 gas carriers worth a total of 2.79 trillion won, including two 200,000㎥ LNG (liquefied natural gas) carriers.
The ordering companies are Oceania, Europe, and Asia shipping companies. With this contract, HD Korea Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering won a total of 76 ships and 9.79 billion dollars (about 13.1 trillion won) this year, achieving 62% of its annual target (15.74 billion dollars) in four months.
HD Korea Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering's new technology Hi-ALS (Next-generation Air Lubrication System) will be applied to LNG carriers won by European shipping companies.
By supplying air to the surface of the hull, it can reduce both fuel use and carbon emissions by reducing sleep friction resistance during operation. The LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas) carrier, which was ordered by an Asian shipping company, will be equipped with a diesel and eco-friendly LPG double fuel propulsion engine.
