[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun] Kia and Kumho Tire's labor unions, which are facing difficulties in wage and collective bargaining, have declared a breakdown in negotiations and decided to strike.

According to the local business community today (11th), Kia and Kumho Tire's labor unions recently voted for and against all members of the union to pass the strike.

In the Kia union vote, 23,884 people, or 89.5% of the total 26,693 union members, participated on the 8th, with 22,035 votes, or 92.3% of the votes.

As a result, if the National Labor Relations Commission decides to suspend negotiations, the union will get a legitimate right to strike.

"There is no agreement with the management at this year's wage and collective agreement," a Kia labor union official said. "We will hold a meeting tomorrow (12th) on whether to proceed with the strike."

Kumho Tire's labor union voted for and against the dispute with 3,529 union members from the 8th to the 9th, and 2,805 people (79.48%) voted for the strike.

The approval ratings for each branch were 78.67% for the Gwangju plant (including Pyeongtaek) and 80.38% for the Gokseong plant.

The union demanded an increase in basic salary by 180,000 won, performance-based bonuses and investment in facilities at its Gwangju plant, but declared a breakdown in negotiations on the 31st of last month after management refused to accept it. The union will not go on strike immediately and will continue negotiations with the management.
