[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun] The LG Chem said on the 30th that it held a ground-breaking ceremony for the country's first ultra-critical pyrolysis plant and a next-generation insulation aerogel plant to build a plastic circulation economy at Seokmun National Industrial Complex in Dangjin, South Chungcheong Province.
The LG Chem plans to invest a total of 310 billion won by 2024 to build an ultra-critical pyrolysis plant and a next-generation insulation Aerogel plant on the 240,000㎡ (about 72,000 pyeong) site, which is the size of 32 soccer fields in the Seokmun National Industrial Complex, to foster eco-friendly future business.
Supercritical pyrolysis is characterized by the decomposition of plastic into a special heat source of water vapor where temperature and pressure exceed the critical point of water. It has a low carbon mass (scorching) and can be operated without a repair process. Heat decomposition oil usage is expected to grow by more than 19% annually to 3.3 million tons by 2030.
Aerogel is produced with its own technology developed by LG Chem and more than 95% is made up of gas, which is light, but it does not get wet and has non-flammable properties.
In particular, heat loss can be minimized when used as insulation for pipes and equipment in industrial sites. Aerogel is expected to grow more than 30% annually due to demand for transportation, storage, and heat blocking of eco-friendly energy (liquefied hydrogen).
