[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Paul Lee] Kakao announced on the 30th that it has completed compensation for the service disruption caused by the SK C&C Pangyo data center fire on October 15 last year. The application for damage support for small business owners was completed on the same day, and the total amount of compensation for users and business partners in the Kakao community recorded about 27.5 billion won.

The Kakao Damage Support Council decided to provide support for 205 out of 451 cases of small business damage received for about five months, and the total amount of support was about 50 million won.

Although it was a free service, the company decided to pay up to KRW 50,000 in cash per small business owner, but the subsidy was decided less than expected due to the lack of a large number of damage cases.

Previously, Kakao decided to provide free service compensation to fulfill its social responsibility for causing inconvenience to users' lives and business activities.

In order to establish reasonable standards, the '1015 Damage Support Council (hereinafter referred to as the Council)' was formed on November 14 last year, consisting of various organizations such as the Small Business Association, the Korea Startup Forum, and the Korea Consumer Federation, as well as fair trade-consumer protection experts.

The consultative body then analyzed about 87,000 damage cases reported immediately after the failure and announced the damage support policy for ordinary users and small business owners on December 29 of that year.
