[Alpha Biz= Paul Lee] Woori Bank has appointed Jeong Ui-cheol, a former Samsung Electronics MX division executive, as the new head of its Digital Sales Group at the vice president level, marking an unusual move for a traditionally conservative banking sector.

The bank announced on January 1 that Jeong, a global software expert, will lead efforts to enhance Woori Bank’s digital platform and strengthen its position in the competitive financial super-app market.

During his tenure at Samsung Electronics, Jeong oversaw software competitiveness for the Galaxy smartphone series, bringing extensive tech industry experience to the banking sector.

Analysts view the appointment as a strategic effort by Woori Bank to accelerate digital transformation and secure leadership in Korea’s evolving digital finance landscape.
