[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun] Following the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST· KAIST), Samsung Electronics' semiconductor contract department will be established in three domestic science and technology institutes.
With the aim of nurturing 500 key semiconductor personnel over the next five years, new students will be given benefits such as shorter degree acquisition periods and scholarship support.
The Ministry of Science and ICT announced on the 27th that it will cooperate with Samsung Electronics to establish semiconductor contract departments in three science and technology institutes: Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST), Daegu Gyeongbuk Institute of Science and Technology (DGIST), and Ulsan Institute of Science and Technology (UNIST). KAIST has already been running a contract department with Samsung Electronics since 2021.
The establishment of a semiconductor contract department is a follow-up measure to the 'Semiconductor Manpower Development Meeting' held in May last year, presided over by Lee Jong-ho, Minister of Science and ICT. The Ministry of Science and ICT emphasized that it is the result of active efforts with Samsung Electronics and the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology to foster core human resources who will lead the semiconductor powerhouse.
