[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun] Korea's first defense company, Poongsan, has succeeded in developing a 155mm range extended ammunition.
As the range of artillery increases, various operations are expected to be possible, including improved viability.
Poongsan announced on the 29th that it has succeeded in developing the 155㎜ range extension missile after meeting all the test evaluation criteria.
The use of the new extended 155㎜ range for K9 self-propelled guns operated by the South Korean military will increase the range by 50% compared to the existing 155㎜ artillery guns, reaching about 60㎞. If the artillery range increases, targets in remote areas are also expected to be hit in real time. This is expected to enable a wider range of operations with long-range strikes.
According to artillery experts, purchase consultations are expected to flood in from many countries, including Turkye and Australia, which operate the K9 self-propelled artillery, as the range is extended to 60㎞ by improving the performance of ammunition alone without changing the specifications of the K9 self-propelled artillery.
