On the morning of August 8, authorities including police, firefighters, the National Forensic Service, and Mercedes-Benz representatives conducted a second joint inspection of the electric vehicle involved in the fire at a Cheongna apartment underground parking lot on August 1. This inspection took place at an industrial site in Seo-gu, Incheon. (Yonhap News)

[Alpha Biz= Reporter Kim Jisun] Recent fires have sparked a so-called "electric vehicle phobia," leading to a significant increase in electric vehicle listings in the domestic used car market. Despite the rise in listings, demand has decreased, causing used electric vehicle prices to fall. The automotive industry is concerned about the deepening "chasm" in electric vehicle demand.

According to K Car, a direct used car platform, the number of electric vehicles registered on their "Sell Your Car Home Service" increased by 184% in the week following the fire incident involving a Mercedes-Benz electric vehicle in Incheon on August 1, compared to the previous week (July 25-31).

During the same period, electric vehicle listings included a 10% share of the fire-affected EQ series models, a significant rise from the previous week when there were no such listings.

Encar.com, an online used car sales platform, reported that the number of EQE models (EQE V295 and EQE SUV X294) listed between August 1 and 8 was 13, a substantial increase from the five vehicles listed in the previous month.
