[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Paul Lee] SK On is known to supply nickel, cobalt, and manganese (NCM) batteries to Chinese electric buses.

According to the industry on the 8th, SK ON recently signed an agreement to install NCM batteries on EM Korea's flagship model 'Eficity' electric bus. The manufacturer of Eficity is Chinese company Hengyang.

The energy density of the NCM battery, which SK On will supply this time, is more than 30% higher than the highest section of 500Wh/ℓ in terms of government subsidies. As a result, stable subsidies are expected to be received.

Earlier, the Ministry of Environment changed the method of calculating subsidies for electric vans last year and included energy density, which means energy efficiency of batteries, in the subsidy payment criteria. Currently, the state performance subsidy for electric buses is 67 million won (on a large basis), but if the energy density is higher than 500Wh/ℓ, you can receive a full subsidy, while if it is less than 400Wh/ℓ, the subsidy will be reduced by up to 30%.
