[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Paul Lee] Hyundai Motor's mid-sized taxi vehicle, whose production has been suspended in Korea, is expected to be imported from China due to opposition from the taxi industry.

Hyundai Motor's labor union said in a newsletter on the 13th that the company plans to bring in the Sonata Taxi produced at its local plant in China.

Hyundai Motor produced the Sonata taxi at its Asan plant, but the more profitability worsens, the more it loses money, so it discontinued the model in July.

However, as the domestic taxi industry protested against the supply and demand of medium-sized vehicles, Hyundai Motor decided to bring in and sell the Sonata Taxi (DN8 model) in Beijing, China.

After reviewing the global supply chain, Hyundai Motor said it has decided to make the Beijing plant in China the best place for sustainable production.

However, the labor union opposes such reverse income of taxi supplies, claiming that it is a violation of the collective agreement. In order to stabilize the employment of union members, it is a principle not to import finished cars and parts produced at domestic factories from overseas factories.

The company claims that the domestic Sonata taxi has already been discontinued, so it is not a violation of the collective agreement and does not cause employment instability.
