[Alpha Biz= Paul Lee] Employees of GS Retail are reportedly moving to form a labor union. On December 11, the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions approved the registration of the ‘GS Retail Branch’ under the National Labor Equality Union.

The unionization drive is believed to stem from dissatisfaction with workforce restructuring, personnel systems, and cost-cutting pressures. GS Retail, which operates convenience store chain GS25 and home shopping platform GS Shop, recently offered voluntary retirement to employees aged 46 and above with over 20 years of service.

If the GS Retail union is successfully established, all three major convenience store operators in Korea—including BGF Retail’s CU and Korea Seven’s 7-Eleven—will have labor unions.
