[Alpha Biz= Reporter Kim Jisun] A worker was crushed to death by a robot at a factory in Saha-gu, Busan.


The Busan Employment and Labor Office announced on the 29th that a 30-year-old worker, identified as Mr. A, was involved in an accident on the 25th at 11:18 AM at an ice cream manufacturing plant in Dadae-dong, Saha-gu. Mr. A was caught by a robot transporting boxes. Despite being taken to a hospital for treatment, he eventually succumbed to his injuries.

According to the Labor Office, Mr. A was performing maintenance on the robot when his upper body got caught. The company where Mr. A worked has more than five regular employees, making it subject to the Serious Accidents Punishment Act. The Labor Office suspects a malfunction in the robot caused it to operate suddenly and is investigating the exact cause of the accident.
