[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Paul Lee] Hanwha Aerospace made an announcement on the 20th that it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOA) with British Vertical Aerospace (VA), a company specializing in urban air transportation (UAM), to develop UAM.

Hanwha Aerospace CEO Son Jae-il and VA CEO Stephen Fitzpatrick attended the signing ceremony held the previous day at the Paris Air Show in France.

With this agreement, the two companies plan to expand their UAM business with active partnerships.

Hanwha Aerospace develops and supplies a tilting blade pitch system that will be applied to the four-seater UAM VX4 under development by VA. Tilting blade pitch system is a core technology that transmits motor power to propellers and adjusts flight direction and thrust of UAM. Vertical takeoffs and landings and horizontal flights must both be possible. This requires a high level of R&D capabilities.

In August last year, VA signed a contract with Hanwha Aerospace to supply an electric actuator (EMA) that controls various mechanical movements of the UAM.
