The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and the National Police Agency announced today (16th) that new businesses using outdoor mobile robots will be allowed as the revised Intelligent Robot Act goes into effect tomorrow.
Until now, outdoor mobile robots have not been allowed to pass through sidewalks by granting pedestrian status to outdoor mobile robots that have been certified for driving safety due to the revision of the Intelligent Robot Act and the Road Traffic Act.
Those who wish to operate an outdoor mobile robot on the sidewalk will be obliged to subscribe to insurance (or deduction).
Subject to driving safety certification are outdoor mobile robots below mass 500kg and speed 15km/h, and those who want to operate must be verified for the safety of 16 test items, including compliance with driving areas and passing crosswalks, by the driving safety certification agency designated by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy.
Outdoor mobile robots are also subject to the Road Traffic Act like pedestrians, so they should not violate signals or jaywalk.
If you violate the regulations, the operator may pay a fine (30,000 won if you violate the safety operation obligation).
The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and the National Police Agency will monitor whether even robots that have been certified for driving safety in the early stages of the system may cause safety accidents.
The Ministry of Industry also asked on the sidewalk that even if the robot approaches, do not panic and deliberately interfere with the progress or damage the robot.
