[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun] Ecopro, a battery material company, is leading the global battery material market through a global trilateral belt linking Korea, Canada and Hungary.

Ecopro announced on the 23rd that it plans to establish Ecopro Cam Canada LP’ soon, which will be in charge of building a battery anode material plant in Becancour, Quebec, Canada.

Last week, EcoProBM's top executives met with senior Canadian government and Quebec government officials and joint venture partners SK On and Ford to finalize investment plans and schedules, including the amount of the 'Becore Project' investment, region and production capacity of the plant.

The 'Becancour Project' will invest a total of 1.2 trillion won. Ecopro Cam Canada LP’ is in charge of about half of it, and the other half is subsidized by the Canadian and Quebec governments. As it is a bipolar material production plant, Ecoprobm invests the largest stake among the joint ventures. EcoPro Cam Canada LP’, which will be in charge of the construction and operation of the plant, will be established under the leadership of EcoProBM, and Ford and SKON will participate through funding.

It is expected to produce about 45,000t of battery anode materials by 2026 when the plant is completed. The entire production will be delivered to Ford's electric vehicles via SK On.
