[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun] The labor union of HD Hyundai Heavy Industries secured the right to strike as a result of a vote for and against its members. All members of the union will stage a three-hour strike on the 12th.

The labor union of HD Hyundai Heavy Industries said on the 11th that voting for and against the dispute in 2023 recorded 71.6 percent turnout and 95.9 percent approval rating. The vote took place from the 7th to 6 p.m. this evening.

With the support of a majority of the union members, the union won the right to a legitimate dispute. Another requirement, the National Labor Relations Commission's decision to suspend mediation, was met on the 10th. The National Labor Relations Commission judged that there was a wide gap in views between labor and management in this year's negotiations.

Labor and management have consulted 14 times since May but failed to narrow differences. The biggest agenda item is the size of the wage increase. The union is demanding a basic salary of 184,900 won and an increase in service allowances, as well as a team dedicated to reforming the wage system.

The policy is to continue negotiations with the management. Separately, the union will go on strike for three hours from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on the 12th in a bid to join the general strike of the metal workers' union. Plans for subsequent strikes are up in the air.
