[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Paul Lee] Naver Webtoon has declared war on illegal sites. More than 150 illegal sites overseas have been suspended due to the "Subpoena" conducted through U.S. courts.

In the United States, based on the "Digital Millennium Copyright Act" (DMCA), copyright holders can request service providers to submit their personal information through a summons if there is copyright infringement on online services.

Naver Webtoon proceeded with the subpoena process on behalf of the creators at all costs.

According to Naver Webtoon on the 3rd, more than 150 of the 360 illegal sites listed in the summons, including large primary illegal sites that illegally distribute webtoons, have been completely deleted or temporarily suspended.

In July this year, Naver Webtoon issued a summons to a large content transmission network (CDN) in the United States demanding the submission of personal information of more than 360 illegal site operators. Information of illegal site operators, such as addresses, e-mails, and payment details, is essential information for tracking and arresting. subpoenas also have the effect of dampening the activities of illegal site operators.

Naver Webtoon will share the information on illegal site operators secured this time with investigative agencies and respond strictly to the principle of zero tolerance.
