[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Paul Lee] POSCO International is set to secure liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers. It announced on the 10th that it plans to secure 174,000 CMB (Qubic Meter) LNG carriers and use them for LNG business.

POSCO International recently signed a long-term charter contract with H-Line Shipping, a domestic shipping company specializing in exclusive lines. The size of the exclusive line secured this time is 299m long and 46.4m wide, and is about 14 stories high. It is capable of transporting about half a day of LNG at a time for the entire Republic of Korea. The exclusive line will begin construction by Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries in October and will be delivered to POSCO International in the first half of 2025.

POSCO International plans to use this LNG exclusive line first to procure gas for existing trading. It will also be used to transport 400,000 tons of shale gas from North America, which is scheduled to be introduced for domestic supply and demand and trading for 20 years from 2026 to 2046. In addition, it is planning to secure additional LNG cable lines in order to enter the LNG business, which is currently dominated by foreign companies.
