[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun] CJ Group and Coupang are clashing in all areas of the business. The conflict over delivery prices that has continued since last year has shifted to the delivery market following cosmetics.

CJ Logistics, the No. 1 courier market, and Coupang Logics Services (CLS), which is increasing its market share, are engaged in a war of nerves ahead of the "delivery day" on the 14th.

According to related industries on the 13th, CJ Logistics expressed strong regret over Coupang's recent statement that the "day off" (August 14) is "because of structural problems in the delivery industry that (deliverymen) cannot take a break even if they want to take a break."

Courier Day is a system in which major courier companies will be closed in 2020 so that couriers can enjoy the stepping-stone holiday. Major courier companies such as CJ Logistics, Hanjin, and Lotte Global Logistics are scheduled to be closed nationwide on the 14th, but Coupang will not participate.

In recent data stressing its courier's day-off system, Coupang wrote, "It has designated a day-off day for couriers who cannot go on summer vacation because they cannot structurally rest even if they want to."

In response, CJ Logistics criticized Coupang, saying, "It is not helpful for the delivery industry to criticize the existing industry based on distorted claims that they have made a day off because they cannot rest at will when they want to."

"The purpose of ESG management, a global trend, is that companies, consumers, workers, partners and the same industry should all grow together," a CJ Logistics official said. "If companies are recognized for their influence in the market, they should not ignore them because they are not legally binding but at least respect the industry's efforts."
