[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun] "SAPEON X330 is targeting NVIDIA's L40S GPU (graphic processing unit)," said SAPEON CEO Ryu Soo-jung on the 15th. "Computational performance of X330 is about twice as high and power efficiency is 1.3 times superior compared to competitors."

Ryu said at the SAPEON X330 launch press conference, "X330 has more than four times as much computing performance and more than twice as much power efficiency as the previous X220."

SAPEON is an AI (artificial intelligence) chip fabless (semiconductor design) established in 2022 by SK Telecom (017670), SK Hynix (000660), and SK Square (402340) with a joint investment of 80 billion won.

SAPEON plans to actively target AI service model development companies and data center markets through the new product X330. The goal is to test X330 prototypes and verify reliability for major customers and start mass production in the first half of next year.

The X330, which was unveiled this time, is a product produced through the 7nm (nm, 1nm = 1 billionth of a meter) process of TSMC, a Taiwanese foundry (semiconductor consignment production) company. The overall TCO was improved by installing all of SK Hynix's GDDR6 and adding LLM support. The company explained that it has improved not only speed but also power efficiency compared to its predecessor and competitors.

In addition, X330 has built-in video codecs and video post-processing IP (design assets) to improve the processing speed of video-related programs. Four-channel 4K 60fps video input can be processed through the built-in hardware IP. In addition, two types of compact and prime card solutions using X330 chips are provided.
