[Apha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Paul Lee] Kia is planning to build a second purpose-based vehicle (PBV) plant in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi-do.

Kia is considering building a new PBV plant on the site of a plant in Autoland Hwaseong (formerly Hwaseong plant) in Hwaseong.

The factory is known to be aiming for mass production in 2028.

PBV refers to a vehicle based on motorization and autonomous driving technology with a focus on the purpose of use, not the driver.

If Kia finalizes its plan to build a new PBV plant, it will house the country's second PBV-only production facility.

Previously, Kia held a groundbreaking ceremony for a mid-sized PBV plant in Autoland Hwaseong in April and is currently under construction.

Kia aims to mass-produce medium-sized PBVs from 2025 after the completion of the plant.

In this regard, Kia officials said, "We cannot confirm what is currently under negotiation between labor and management."

Meanwhile, Kia's labor and management are currently working on wage collective negotiations for 2023.
