[Alpha Biz= Reporter Kim Jisun] Asiana Airlines will raise its international excess baggage fees starting January 2, 2024. Following earlier price hikes by low-cost carriers (LCCs) this year, Asiana is now adjusting its fees as well.

According to the airline industry on October 6, Asiana Airlines recently posted the updated excess baggage fees on its website. Excess baggage refers to luggage that exceeds the number or weight limits of the free allowance. Currently, Asiana offers 1-2 pieces of free baggage depending on the route and seating class, with additional charges for extra or overweight baggage.

For routes to the Americas, the current charge of KRW 200,000 per extra bag will increase to KRW 240,000 starting next year. Short-haul routes (flights under 90 minutes) will see an increase from KRW 60,000 to KRW 90,000, while the fee for European routes will rise from KRW 140,000 to KRW 180,000. The airline also noted that passengers can receive a 10% discount if they purchase baggage in advance.

Pet transportation fees will also increase. For pets weighing under 32 kg (including the cage) on U.S. and European routes, the fee will rise from KRW 290,000 to KRW 330,000. These fee changes will apply to tickets issued on or after January 2, 2024.
