[Alpha Biz= Paul Lee] Seoul, November 2, 2025 — The Busan–Ulsan–Gyeongnam Forum (BUG Forum) has urged SK Oceanplant Co., Ltd. to halt its planned stake sale, warning that the move could negatively impact the regional economy of South Gyeongsang Province (Gyeongnam).

In a resolution released on Sunday, the forum condemned the decision as “an irresponsible act that disregards corporate ethics,” calling on SK Oceanplant to withdraw the sale and honor its earlier commitments to local development.

Founded in 2012, the BUG Forum comprises local leaders from business, academia, media, and civic sectors, promoting balanced regional governance and sustainable industrial growth. The group criticized SK Oceanplant’s unilateral sale attempt, saying it could undermine balanced development across the Busan–Ulsan–Gyeongnam (BUG) region.

According to the resolution, SK Oceanplant has received strong administrative and financial support from Goseong County since its establishment, emerging as a key pillar of local industry. The county had supported the company’s investment plans by designating Goseong as a “Regional Opportunity Development Zone,” upgrading National Route 77, and building new industrial access roads, while residents endured significant inconvenience and disruption in return for promised growth.
