[Alpha Biz= Reporter Kim Jisun] Hanjin has established a joint venture with AWOT Global Corporation, a leading Chinese logistics company, to spearhead the e-commerce logistics market originating from China.

On September 5th, Hanjin and AWOT officially launched their joint company, "Hanjin Global Express Shenzhen Co., Ltd.," in Shenzhen, China. The partnership aims to combine their expertise and network infrastructure to expand operations across Asia. Attendees at the launch event included Hanjin's CEO Noh Sam-seok, President Cho Hyun-min, and AWOT CEO Roger He.

AWOT, headquartered in Guangzhou, operates 50 global branches, specializing in logistics across the Asian region. As China's e-commerce market has grown at an average annual rate of 23% over the past five years, the two companies seized this opportunity by forming the joint venture. The joint company will handle express shipments from China, manage fulfillment operations, and oversee transport to Korea and Japan, with plans to expand services to Southeast Asia and the U.S.

Hanjin and AWOT also plan to strategically develop cross-border e-commerce logistics by securing large-scale shipments from major Chinese retailers, leveraging Hanjin’s Incheon Airport GDC and international customs and transport networks.
