[Alpha Biz= Paul Lee] SEOUL, October 26, 2025 — South Korean game publisher Nexon Co., Ltd. experienced a widespread payment disruption this week after a system malfunction at mobile payment gateway provider Danal Co. led to the mass cancellation of in-game microtransactions across several of Nexon’s major titles.
According to industry sources, the issue occurred on October 24, affecting multiple popular games, including MapleStory, Dungeon & Fighter, and Mabinogi Mobile. Players discovered that mobile carrier-based microtransactions made earlier in October had been automatically canceled, triggering confusion and speculation about potential hacking or voice-phishing attempts.
In official notices posted across its game platforms, Nexon clarified that the cancellations were caused by a “system error” on the part of Danal, not by a security breach. “We have confirmed that the cancellation of Nexon mobile payment transactions was due to a system issue at Danal,” the company stated.
Nexon added that all affected transactions will be automatically reprocessed without any additional action required from users once the issue is fully resolved.
Danal, one of Korea’s largest payment service providers, also sent out text notifications to affected users, acknowledging the error. The company explained that a portion of mobile payment transactions made through Nexon during October were mistakenly canceled and assured users that the issue was being corrected.
The incident underscores the growing dependency of Korea’s online gaming ecosystem on third-party payment infrastructure, as well as the potential ripple effects of even temporary PG system malfunctions on high-volume digital platforms like Nexon.
