[Alpha Biz= Reporter Kim Jisun] Micron Technology, the world’s third-largest memory chipmaker after Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix, has intensified its recruitment efforts to attract South Korean semiconductor engineers.

According to industry sources on Sunday, Micron has recently conducted a series of in-person interviews at hotels in the Pangyo area of Gyeonggi Province. These interviews targeted engineers from Samsung Electronics, SK Hynix, and other local semiconductor companies.

Micron’s Taiwan-based managers reportedly led the one-on-one interviews, which included English and presentation (PT) assessments. The recruitment drive focuses on staffing its semiconductor fab in Taichung, Taiwan, a critical production hub for DRAM and high-bandwidth memory (HBM) manufacturing.

Earlier this month, Micron also held recruitment sessions at major Korean universities, offering "same-day hiring" opportunities for pre-registered candidates—a bold move to secure top talent.

With the current focus on hiring experienced engineers for HBM-related roles, Micron appears to be doubling down on its HBM technology capabilities. The company is offering attractive compensation packages, including a 10–20% salary increase (before tax), housing allowances, and visa support. The recruitment efforts extend beyond engineers at Samsung and SK Hynix to employees at foreign semiconductor equipment firms and display companies in Korea. Positions range from junior roles to team leaders.

Analysts view Micron’s aggressive hiring strategy as an effort to boost its HBM competitiveness by leveraging the expertise of Korean engineers, who currently lead in DRAM technology. Micron is a key supplier of HBM3E (5th-generation) 8-stack products to NVIDIA, with plans to launch 12-stack products and mass-produce 6th-generation HBM4 products within the next two years.

This strategic talent acquisition signals Micron's ambition to regain momentum in the competitive memory semiconductor market and secure a stronger foothold in the growing HBM sector.
