[Alpha Biz= Kim Jisun] Kakao plans to restore the original Friends tab layout on KakaoTalk next month, allowing users to revert to the previous interface if they wish.

According to the ICT industry on the 23rd, Kakao will introduce an update in December that brings back the traditional friends list format, three months after launching the grid-style feed layout as part of its September 23 update.

Although some anticipated that the restoration could take place this month, Kakao has reportedly scheduled the change for December due to the need for careful feature refinement and other higher-priority updates. The company has not yet finalized the exact rollout date.

The core of the upcoming update is the option for users to choose between the classic friends list and the current grid-style feed. Users will be able to revert to the previous interface or continue using the new design based on their preference.

Kakao is also preparing additional feature updates that were not part of the initial roadmap.

KakaoTalk’s grid-style friends tab, unveiled in late September, sparked considerable controversy among users, leading the company to revisit and modify its design direction.
