[Alpha Biz= Reporter Kim Jisun] On the 12th, Namyang Dairy announced that it would accept a court ruling imposing a fine for false advertising claims regarding its product, Bulgaris, and would not file an appeal.

In a statement, Namyang Dairy expressed, "We humbly accept the first trial verdict and will respect the court's decision without appealing." This response follows Namyang's 2021 claim during the COVID-19 pandemic that Bulgaris had virus-suppressing effects, a statement that was swiftly refuted by the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency (KDCA). The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety subsequently filed a complaint against the company and its executives for violating food advertising laws.

On the 7th, the Seoul Central District Court imposed a fine of 50 million won on Namyang Dairy for unverified advertising claims. Additionally, former CEO Lee Kwang-bum and former director of the company’s antiviral immunity research institute, Park Jong-soo, were each fined 20 million won, while two other former employees involved received fines of 10 million won each.
