[Alpha Biz= Reporter Kim Jisun] LG Electronics has teamed up with renowned semiconductor design expert Jim Keller, CEO of the AI-focused fabless semiconductor company Tenstorrent, to co-develop AI chips. Through this partnership, LG aims to strengthen its on-device AI capabilities, driving innovation in future-focused areas such as AI appliances, smart homes, mobility, and commercial applications.

According to LG Electronics, key executives, including CEO Cho Joo-wan, met with Keller and Tenstorrent’s leadership at LG Twin Tower in Seoul on the 5th to discuss strategic collaboration in enhancing system semiconductor capabilities. Keller, known for his work at AMD developing the Zen architecture, as well as his roles at Apple and Tesla on application processors and autonomous driving systems, has transformed semiconductor design with a focus on high performance and energy efficiency.

To stay ahead in the rapidly evolving AI technology landscape, the two companies plan to enhance capabilities in next-generation system semiconductors, including chiplet technology, which combines multiple semiconductors into a single package. They will leverage their respective semiconductor intellectual property and technologies to collaborate across various sectors, from AI appliances and smart homes to mobility solutions and video server processors.
