[Alpha Biz= Reporter Kim Jisun] Hyundai Steel’s Pohang Plant 2, which began operations in 1995, is facing a potential shutdown.
According to Hyundai Steel on the 13th, the decision to consider closing Pohang Plant 2 is largely due to the downturn in the construction industry and the impact of low-cost Chinese steel imports. The plant has an annual production capacity of 1 million tons of steelmaking and 700,000 tons of rolling, employing approximately 200 workers.
A Hyundai Steel Pohang plant representative stated, "No final decision has been made regarding a full shutdown," and mentioned that in-depth discussions are expected at the labor-management council meeting on the 14th.
Additionally, the company informed employees of the potential closure of Plant 2 on the 13th.
