[Alpha Biz= Paul Lee] Seoul, September 23, 2025 – The Personal Information Protection Commission (PIPC) announced that it has received multiple data breach reports from asset management companies and has launched an investigation.
According to the PIPC, several asset managers reported incidents of ransomware infections and suspected leaks of employee personal data. The firms filed their disclosures after identifying that their systems had been compromised.
All affected companies had been using file server services provided by Jijetec, a vendor supplying IT infrastructure solutions to asset managers and financial institutions. Industry sources note that a large number of Korean asset management firms rely on Jijetec’s systems.
Ransomware is a form of cyberattack in which hackers encrypt computer systems or data and demand payment in return for decryption.
The PIPC stated it will closely examine the scope of the breach and determine whether adequate security measures were in place.
