[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun] SK Hynix was found to have supplied NVIDIA with an early sample of its 12-speed DRAM stack HBM3E (5th generation HBM), the highest-bandwidth memory (HBM), last month.
According to ZDNet Korea on the 6th, SK Hynix provided NVIDIA with an early sample of a 12-layer DRAM stack HBM3E last month.
HBM is a memory that stacks several DRAMs vertically to greatly increase data processing performance. Currently, HBM3, the fourth-generation product, is on the commercialization track, and the next generation, HBM3E, is expected to be commercialized in the first half of this year.
The HBM3E is divided into eight-speed (24GB) and twelve-speed (36GB) products depending on how many DRAMs are stacked. In the case of SK Hynix, the 8-stage HBM3E supplied samples in the second half of last year and recently passed the test. Although there is no official schedule, mass production is scheduled to begin as early as this month.
Asked about the supply of 12-stage HBM3E samples, SK Hynix said, "We can't confirm anything about our customers."
