[Alpha Biz= Kim Jisun] SEOUL, Aug. 21 — CJ Logistics announced it has withdrawn its appeal in a damages lawsuit filed against the courier labor union, effectively nullifying the case and eliminating compensation obligations for the union.

According to the Seoul High Court on August 21, CJ Logistics officially withdrew its appeal on August 14 in the damages suit it had filed against the union and related individuals. As the entire lawsuit was dropped, the first-instance ruling is void, and the union is no longer liable for compensation.

The case stemmed from a strike launched in December 2021, when the courier union accused CJ Logistics of failing to honor a social agreement on preventing overwork and refusing to engage in collective bargaining. In February 2022, union members occupied the lobby and third floor of the company’s headquarters for 21 days, during which property damage, including broken glass doors and barriers, was reported.

CJ Logistics sought KRW 1.2 billion (approx. USD 9 million) in damages for property destruction, security costs, and reputational harm. In the first trial, the Seoul Central District Court partially sided with the company, ordering the union and three leaders to pay approximately KRW 2.7 billion, with other participants jointly liable for about KRW 1.9 billion.

Although CJ Logistics initially appealed the ruling, seeking greater recognition of its damages, the company has now withdrawn the appeal, canceling the lawsuit in its entirety.
