[Alpha Biz= Reporter Kim Sangjin] A fire broke out in an Ioniq 5 electric vehicle parked on the roadside in O Mokcheon-dong, Gwonseon-gu, Suwon, South Korea. This incident has raised concerns due to the recent series of electric vehicle fires.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the fire department received a report from the driver at 4:58 PM on the 2nd, stating that smoke was coming from the vehicle's battery compartment. Responding quickly, they dispatched 16 pieces of equipment, including pump trucks, and 45 personnel to extinguish the fire. The blaze was brought under control by 6:32 PM, approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes after the initial report. Firefighters are currently using specialized tanks to deal with any remaining embers.
Fortunately, the driver managed to evacuate the vehicle in time, and no injuries were reported. The police plan to investigate the fire's cause once it has been fully extinguished.
