[Alpha Biz= Reporter Kim Jisun] Hanwha Q Cells, the solar division of Hanwha Solutions, has secured a large-scale solar power project in Weld County, Colorado, USA. The project involves constructing a solar power plant on approximately 5.6 square kilometers of land, equivalent to the size of 790 soccer fields, and supplying 540,000 solar modules.

On July 10th (local time), Hanwha Q Cells held a groundbreaking ceremony for the solar power plant with Platte River Power Authority (PRPA), a local power consumer, and announced the project on July 11th. Hanwha Q Cells will be responsible for the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) of the solar power plant, overseeing both development and construction.

Hanwha Q Cells plans to complete the power plant and commence commercial operations by 2025, supplying renewable energy to PRPA under a power purchase agreement (PPA). The company has been actively expanding its presence in the U.S. market by securing large renewable energy projects and EPC contracts.

In May, Hanwha Q Cells completed the construction of a project consisting of 50 megawatts (MW) of solar modules and 200 megawatt-hours (MWh) of energy storage systems (ESS). This power plant currently supplies renewable energy to Meta, a major U.S. tech company.
