[Alpha Biz= Paul Lee] SEOUL, November 14 — Kia announced that it has begun establishing a purpose-built vehicle (PBV) production hub capable of producing 250,000 units annually, anchored by its new PBV-dedicated EVO Plant in Hwaseong.

The company held the completion ceremony for EVO Plant East and the groundbreaking ceremony for EVO Plant West at Autoland Hwaseong in Ujeong-eup, Hwaseong, Gyeonggi Province.

The event was attended by Prime Minister Kim Min-seok, First Vice Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy Moon Shin-hak, Gyeonggi Governor Kim Dong-yeon, Hwaseong Mayor Jeong Myeong-geun, Hyundai Motor Group Executive Chair Euisun Chung, and approximately 200 government officials and company executives.

Kia has secured a 300,375 m² site—equivalent to 42 football fields—for EVO Plant East, EVO Plant West (scheduled to begin operations in 2027), and a PBV Conversion Center. The company plans to invest around KRW 4 trillion in facilities and R&D.

Kia will also utilize approximately 105,000 pyeong of idle state-owned land within Autoland Hwaseong to build a 50 MW solar power plant, accelerating its efforts to achieve RE100 through the use of 100% renewable energy.
