[Alpha Biz = Reporter Lee Joon hyun] SEOUL, Korea – July 28, 2025 – Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. today reportedly signed a foundry supply agreement worth ₩22.76 trillion (approx. USD 16.5 billion) with Tesla Inc. to manufacture advanced semiconductors.

The agreement represents 7.6% of Samsung Electronics’ 2024 consolidated revenue and will run through December 31, 2033. This milestone contract is widely seen as a significant step forward for Samsung’s foundry business, strengthening its position in the global semiconductor market.

Samsung Electronics Chairman Jay Y. Lee first met with Tesla CEO Elon Musk in May 2023 at Samsung’s North America Semiconductor R&D Labs in Silicon Valley, where the two leaders discussed potential collaboration on next-generation technologies, including system semiconductors for autonomous driving.

In recent years, Samsung Electronics has been actively expanding its client portfolio in AI and high-performance computing chips, securing partnerships with leading companies such as NVIDIA, Qualcomm, and Tesla.

As part of its long-term strategy, Samsung previously unveiled its “System Semiconductor Vision 2030”, committing to invest ₩133 trillion in the foundry business to become the world’s No.1 system semiconductor leader by 2030.

Industry observers note that this latest contract highlights Samsung’s ability to win major orders amid intensifying competition in the global foundry market.

A Samsung Electronics spokesperson stated, “We cannot confirm any details regarding the agreement.”
