[Alpha Biz= Kim Jisun] U.S. chipmaker Marvell Technology has selected Samsung Electro-Mechanics as a key partner for next-generation AI chips, signing a long-term silicon capacitor supply deal worth approximately KRW 1.5 trillion ($1.1 billion).
According to industry sources on May 21, Marvell will source high-performance silicon capacitors from Samsung Electro-Mechanics over a two-year period from January 2027 through December 2028.
The agreement is aimed at enhancing power stability in Marvell’s advanced AI chipsets, a critical factor in high-performance computing environments such as data centers and cloud infrastructure.
Marvell, a leading fabless semiconductor company, designs networking and storage chips widely used in data centers, 5G networks, and AI infrastructure. Its custom AI ASICs and high-speed switching chips have become essential components for global hyperscalers amid surging demand for large-scale data processing.
As AI workloads increase, managing rapid fluctuations in power and minimizing electrical noise has become a key technical challenge. Silicon capacitors play a crucial role in stabilizing voltage and ensuring reliable chip performance under heavy computational loads.
Industry sources indicate that after rigorous qualification processes, Marvell chose Samsung Electro-Mechanics for its advanced microfabrication capabilities and proven reliability in high-performance component manufacturing.
The deal marks Samsung Electro-Mechanics’ first large-scale entry into the AI semiconductor power component supply chain and positions the company to expand into broader high-performance computing and automotive applications.
