[Alpha Biz= Paul Lee] New York, October 13 (local time) — JPMorgan Chase, the largest bank in the United States, announced plans to invest $1.5 trillion (approximately ₩2,140 trillion) over the next decade in industries critical to U.S. national security, including rare earth minerals, aerospace, energy technology, and advanced manufacturing.

The bank outlined four strategic focus areas — defense and aerospace, AI and quantum computing, energy and battery technologies, and supply chain and advanced manufacturing — signaling a sweeping effort to strengthen America’s technological and industrial base amid rising competition with China.

Jamie Dimon, Chairman and CEO of JPMorgan Chase, said in a statement:

“The United States has become painfully aware that we rely too heavily on unreliable sources for essential minerals and products vital to national security. We must act now.”

Dimon had previously warned in his May shareholder letter that the U.S. was “overly dependent on potential adversaries for key military materials,” urging strategic independence from China.

The announcement came just days after China expanded its rare earth export restrictions on October 9, prompting President Donald Trump to initially threaten a 100% retaliatory tariff, before softening his stance two days later — a move analysts say highlights America’s vulnerability in critical mineral supply chains.

According to the Financial Times, JPMorgan’s new initiative “aligns closely with the White House’s policy agenda to secure essential infrastructure and technology domestically.”

Following the news, rare earth and energy-related stocks surged:

Critical Metals Group rose 55.4%,

United States Antimony jumped 36.86%,

Oklo gained 16.2%, NuScale Power 14.73%,

IonQ climbed 16.2%, and Rigetti Computing soared 25.02%.
